Overview Choquequirao Trek 4 Days

Day 1: Cusco – Kapuliyoq – Chikisca

At 6:00 a.m., we will pick you up from your hotel and depart from Cusco in our private transportation, which will take us to the town of San Pedro de Cachora (2,800 meters above sea level). Here, we can make any last-minute purchases for the trek. Then, we will continue to the Kapuliyoq sector, where our hike will begin.

At this point, we will meet the rest of our travel team (cooks, muleteers, and their horses). Along the way, you will enjoy a wide variety of landscapes, each representing different climates, including the snowy peaks of Pedrayoc. The diverse flora and fauna add beauty to our journey.

Today, we will hike for 4 to 6 hours, during which we will observe the stunning Apurímac River canyon and catch the first glimpses of Choquequirao. We will continue descending until we reach Chikisca, where we will have lunch. This will also be the location for dinner and our campsite for the night.

Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Sunchupata

After a good breakfast at 6:00 a.m. in the heart of nature, we will begin by descending to Playa Rosalina (1,550 meters above sea level).

We will then ascend toward the Santa Rosa area (2,100 meters above sea level), where we will stop for lunch to regain our strength. Along the way, you’ll enjoy trails beautifully adorned by the surrounding natural landscapes.

Continuing with a steady ascent toward the Marampata sector (2,850 meters above sea level), you will have the opportunity to appreciate the dense vegetation in the area. Finally, a flat path will take you to your campsite at Sunchupata, where you will enjoy dinner and spend a pleasant night.

Day 3: Choquequirao – Maranpata – Chikisca

Waking up in the Andes is a true pleasure. Breakfast will inspire us to continue seeking paths into the wilderness of Choquequirao. Following the trail, we will reach the Choquequirao archaeological site, where you’ll have time to enjoy breathtaking views of the deep canyons and perhaps even catch sight of a condor flying nearby.

We will then hike to the main complex of Choquequirao, located about an hour away, to explore its wonders. Our knowledgeable guide will take you on a mystical journey through time as you discover the site. After approximately three hours of exploring the complex, we will begin the return journey along the same trail.

We will descend through Sunchupata, Santa Rosa, and Playa Rosalina, finally arriving at Chikisca, where we will have dinner and set up camp for the night.

Day 4: Chikisca – Kapuliyoq – Cusco

The last Andean breakfast is the largest and most special, accompanied by the soothing sound of the river. In the early hours of the day, under the morning sun, we will retrace our steps back to Kapuliyoq (2,800 meters above sea level). On the return trail, we may spot condors soaring above, along with glimpses of Andean life, snow-capped mountains, and breathtaking landscapes.

This part of the hike includes a gentle two-hour ascent to the Kapuliyoq Pass (2,915 meters above sea level). Along the way, we will observe exotic flora and fauna, as well as majestic views of the Apurímac Canyon and the towering snow-capped peaks.

Upon reaching Kapuliyoq, where the climbing route ends, we will have lunch while enjoying the final views of the Apurímac Valley and Choquequirao. The climb takes approximately four hours.

In the afternoon, we will take a three-hour car ride back to Cusco. Upon arrival around 6:00 p.m., you will be dropped off at your hotel.
